Map slide depicting the Southeast region. The Southeast region comprises of the states of Espírito Santo (ES), Minas Gerais (MG), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) and São Paulo (SP). It covers 11% of Brazil (924,935 sq. km). Despite its comparatively small geographic size, it is the most economically developed region in South America and is responsible for nearly 60% of the Brazil's GNP. The Southeast is also the most populated region in the nation with a little less than 44% of the total population in 1986.Slide do mapa mostrando a região Sudeste. Esta região abrange os estados do Espírito Santo (ES), Minas Gerais (MG), Rio de Janeiro (RJ) e São Paulo (SP). Ela cobre apenas 11% (924.935 km quadrados) do território do Brasil. Apesar de seu pequeno tamanho, quando comparada a outras regiões, ela é economicamente a mais desenvolvida região do Brasil e da América do Sul, sendo responsável por aproximadamente 60% do Produto Nacional Bruto (PNB). O Sudeste é também a região mais populosa do país, com pouco menos que 44% do total da população brasileira em 1986.
