|dc.description.abstract||Message From the Associate Provost for Research/Dean of Graduate Studies
I am pleased to release Contract and Grant Awards FY99, which lists contract and grant (C&G) awards received by the University of New Mexico (UNM) during the period from July 1, 1998 - June 30, 1999. These awards represent new funds that were acquired during FY99 by the main campus, branch campuses and education centers and the Health Sciences Center (HSC). The HSC includes the School of Medicine, College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy.
The awards received for FY99 total $218.6M, of which $148.6M is attributed to the main campus. These awards assist in providing resources that are necessary to improve the quality of research and teaching at UNM. They also enhance the opportunities for students to be trained in state-of-the-art laboratories in a variety of disciplines.
We have expanded the detail of this report with respect to the Strategic Research Centers: Center for Alcohol, Substance Abuse and Addictions (CASAA), Center for High Technology Materials (CHTM), Center for Micro-Engineered Materials (CMEM) and High Performance Computing Education and Research Center (HPCERC). Principal investigators listed under these centers who hold faculty appointments appear with a superscript to acknowledge their department affiliation(s). The superscript assignments are noted on the following page.
Please join me in thanking our dedicated faculty, staff and students involved in the sponsored research, public service and instruction efforts at UNM. It is their successful endeavors that enhance UNM's visibility at the national and international levels, as well as contribute to the economic growth of New Mexico and the region. Thanks are also due to a number of individuals who have helped in preparing this report. In particular, I would like to acknowledge the efforts of Denise Wallen, Ann Powell and Valerie Roybal of the Office of Research Services, and Marcia Sletten and Virginia Henning of the Health Sciences Center.
As always, I welcome your comments and questions with respect to this annual report, and other issues related to research activities at UNM.
