Abstract: A slide presentation on using economic indicators from U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis’ regional economic accounts and other databases to assess a community’s economy. After defining the community’s geographic area and looking at historical trends in employment and income, Dr. Reynis describes how to use location quotient analysis to determine its “pull factors.” Pull factors reveal an economic area's injections (what brings money into the local economy) and leakages (what takes money out of the economy). Tables and charts with data for New Mexico counties are used to illustrate.
