In our first Symposium, we call upon participants to share their insights, observations and research through a series of round table discussions that address key questions such as: 1. How do international social, economic, or political polices impact grass root efforts of language maintenance, revitalization and documentation activities? 2. How do national education policies impact Indigenous language maintenance initiatives and support documentation efforts? 3. What is the role of school and community-based efforts in the survival of Indigenous languages? 4. How do national and local educational policies hasten or mitigate Indigenous language loss? 5. What are successful models that can shape the broader social and cultural contexts for Indigenous language survival?
