The largest cattle herds developed in the best watered areas, especially in Bahia and Pernambuco along the São Francisco river, and later in Piauí and Maranhão. Larger cities like Juazeiro or Feira de Santana (BA) and Campina Grande (PB) have developed in these still important cattle ranching areas.Vista de Juazeiro (BA) e do Rio São Francisco. Os maiores rebanhos de gado foram criados nas áreas de mais águas, especialmente na Bahia e Pernambuco ao longo do Rio São Francisco e mais tarde no Piauí e Maranhão. Cidades maiores como Juazeiro ou Feira de Santana (BA) e Campina Grande (PB) se desenvolveram nessas áreas ainda hoje importantes pela criação de gado.
