Description

A favela below a modern avenue and apartment building, huddled next to the sea in Salvador (BA). Because of explosive growth, largely from rural migration, city officials throughout the Northeast and the rest of the country have been unable to provide such basic facilities as water, electricity, sewage and most especially housing. Rapid industrialization and this large influx of migrants has given rise to enormous transportation, sanitation and pollution problems.Uma favela ao lado de uma modema avenida e prédio de apartamento, próximos ao mar, em Salvador (BA). Devido ao crescimento explosivo, grandemente advindo da imigração rural, os governantes das cidades em todo o Nordeste e resto do país têm sido incapazes de prover serviços básicos como água, eletricidade, esgoto e especialmente moradia. A industrialização rápida e o grande influxo de imigrantes têm causado problemas de transporte, saneamento e poluição.
