Description

64. Vista do caminho para Mariana (View of Mariana from the Road), 1962. The colonial architecture of this eighteenth-century town in Minas (one of those built during the diamond mining boom) can be seen in this landscape painting by Guignard. These were the towns that the Modernist writers and artists visited in 1924 with Swiss poet Blaise Cendrars during their "re-discovery of Brazil."
