21. A copa (The Pantry), c. 1905. A Twentieth century still-life by São Paulo painter Pedro Alexandrino Borges. Alexandrino, painter of refined still lifes, was one of the early teachers of modernist painter Tarsila do Amaral. Tarsila gained a solid grounding in craftsmanship and technique from her early studies, then went on to create some of the most arresting, iconoclastic works of Brazilian Modernism.
