View of the Amazon river several kilometers below Parintins (AM). This region is predominately occupied by the lowlands and plains of the Amazon river basin which lies between the Guiana and the Brazilian Highlands. The Amazon River and its numerous tributaries form the largest fluvial system in the world, and the river is second in length only to the Nile.Vista do rio Amazonas, alguns quilómetros mais abaixo de Parintins (AM). Esta região é predominantemente caracterizada pelas terras baixas e planícies da bacia Amazónica, localizadas entre os planaltos Guiano e Brasileiro. O rio Amazonas e seus numerosos afluentes formam o maior sistema fluvial do mundo, sendo ele o segundo maior rio em comprimento, somente menor que o rio Nilo.
