An old, black grandmother in front of her shack. It is often the grandmother or an older sibling who takes care of the household when the parents are away working. In 1950, only 14% of the work force were women. Today, one in every three economically active persons is female, and this figure is steadily rising. Nevertheless, women continue to be among the worst paid workers in the country.Uma velha avó em frente de um barraco. É geralmente a avó ou um filho mais velho que toma conta da casa enquanto os pais estão no trabalho. Em 1950 apenas 14% da força de trabalho era composta de mulheres. Hoje, uma em cada três pessoas economicamente ativas é mulher. Apesar de estes números estarem a crescer consistentemente as mulheres continuam entre os trabalhadores mais mal pagos do país.
