A southem style U.S. Baptist church, complete with white fence, porch and steeple in Belterra (P A) near Santarém, formerly known as Fordlândia: It was in this area that Henry Ford plantations attempted to establish rubber, only to abandon them when the rubber boom ended in the late 1920s. The rubber groves are now operated by the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture and used as a research station.
