Description

The old customs house built of imported brick in the port of Manaus. Built in 1906 of Scottish bricks, today it houses the port revenue office. The city ofManaus, located near1y 1500 km upstream trom Belém along the Rio Negro river, also thrived during the rubber boom. The first tramway in South America was built there and the local elite could listen to the latest European operas in the elegant Teatro Amazonas.A velha alfândega do porto de Manaus, construída com tijolos importados. Construída em 1906 com tijolos escoceses, hoje abriga os escritórios da renda portuária. A cidade de Manaus, localizada aproximadamente a 1 SOO km acima de Belém ao longo do Rio Negro também foi enriquecida durante o surto da borracha. A primeira linha de bondes da América do Sul foi construída nessa cidade, onde a elite local podia assistir às mais recentes óperas européias no elegante Teatro Amazonas.
