Abstract: The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that sildenafil therapy will improve gastric emptying time by 50% as determined by a Tc sulphur colloid gastric emptying study in patients with previously diagnosed diabetic gastroparesis. We hypothesize that inadequate nitric oxide generation and/or stability plays a role in the pathogensis of diabetic gastroparesis in humans and that this defect is amenable to pharmacologic intervention with agents that prolong nitric oxide action and/or stability.
