Abstract

My analysis of others' works as well as my own has led me to focus on what I believe is the essential component to my writing--banter. Through discussing Abbott & Costello's Who's on First?, Samuel Beckett's Waiting for Godot, Kevin Smith's Clerks, in addition to two of my plays, anything and always\u2026 and Back Home, this essay will define banter as a dramatic device that can be used as a means to further story, character, or the world of a script. This document, along with the attached appendix acts as one unit to illustrate my use of banter.
