Abstract

An assessment of the Carlsbad community and market trade area, done for the New Mexico MainStreet program. Local and regional socioeconomic and industry data are briefly examined; using the location quotient analysis method, the author identifies those pull factors causing a net economic leakage in Carlsbads economy. He then discusses the local economy's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and challenges. Illustrated with charts, tables, and maps.'
