O Brasil possui algumas das instalações médicas mais modernas da América Latina, mas o país enfrenta grandes e difíceis problemas na extensão de programas básicos de saúde nas enormes favelas e especialmente no interior. No sertão, as pessoas se acostumaram a depender das práticas de medicina popular.
