Description
An ethanol alcohol distillery where automobile fuel is made from sugarcane in the Cariri valley (CE). The government's ambitious program to produce fuel from sugarcane and manioc was on1y one of many projects intended to revive the local economy and bring change to the Northeast. Nevertheless, poor long-term planning, lower international oil prices and disagreements among the industrial and landowning elites reduced the program' s feasibility.Destilaria de álcool onde o combustível para automóveis é produzido da cana-de-açúcar no vale do Cariri (CE). Um dos muitos projetos destinados a revigorar a economia local e transformar o Nordeste foi o ambicioso programa do governo para produzir álcool extraído da cana-de-açúcar e da mandioca. Contudo, projetos a longo prazo mal feitos, preços internacionais baixos do petróleo e o desacordo entre a elite industrial e a dos proprietários de terras, reduziram as possibilidades do programa.
