The casa grande or casardo (main house) was the center of attention on the coffee plantation, from where the plantation owner or caretaker directed the daily operations. Many casardes rivaled the mansions of wealthy European families and the coffee barons, like the sugar plantation owners before, imported the best Europe had to offer.A casa grande ou casarão (casa principal) era o centro das atenções na fazenda cafeeira, de onde o proprietário ou adminstrador dirigia as operações diariamente. Muitos casarões disputavam com as mansões das famílias ricas européias e os barões do café, como anteriormente, os donos das plantações de cana-de-açúcar, que importavam o que de melhor a Europa tinha a oferecer.
