Although it no longer is the political capital of Brazil, many important parastatal companies and other public institutions still have their headquarters in Rio de Janeiro.35) Centro do Rio de Janeiro, visto do Memorial aos Mortos da II Guerra. Em 1960 a capital do Brasil foi transferida para o interior do país, do Rio para Brasília. Apesar de não ser mais a capital política do país, muitas companhias estatais e outras instituições públicas ainda têm seu escritório central no Rio de Janeiro.
